Error code 0x800F0F4

Tried to install Security Update for WinXP KB944338 and it's failed each
time. Error code 0x800F0F4. Searching for that error code on the Knowledge
Base finds no reference.

Can anyone shed any light why this install won't go? I've never had a
problem with an previous updates.

0x800F0F4 is not the entire error code, Jeff. There are 8 numbers
trailing the Ox.
If the error was 0x8007F0F4 and IE7 has been installed, then install
Windows Script 5.7 for XP:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Download and *save* WS 5.7
Close all open programs and browsers once the download is completed.
Install WS 5.7
That will mitigate the need to install KB944338 as the Version levels of
jscript and vbscript.dll installed by WS 5.7 are be NOT be affected by:

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS08-022 – Critical
Vulnerability in VBScript and JScript Scripting Engines Could Allow
Remote Code Execution (944338)

Thanks MowGreen. Copying/pasiting the error code in the Installation
Failure message: Error Code: 0x8007F0F4. I should've copied/pasted it in
the first place I guess. I missed the 7 when transposing.

Anway, I'll follow the steps you outlined which I'm sure will solve my
problem.
