Error Code: 0x87FF054F when trying to install service pack 2

recently refromatted my laptop using my recovery disc. proceeded to install
windows updates and was going well until it reached sp 2. it downloaded and
when it tried to install, i get an "internal error" code and the process
stops. in the update history i get Error Code: 0x87FF054F. i tried
downloading the full update from the "IT Professional" source and get the
same error when trying to install that one.

any ideas?
