Error code 0x88Ao1AE when accessing Windows Update

When accessing the Update sie, I receive the ox88A01AE error and cannot
install updates.

First, I think the error code you mean is 0x800A01AE. If not, please
post back with the correct code (the one you wrote begins with an "oh"
instead of a zero, and only has 7 hex digits so is incomplete).

Try this to fix the problem. Restart your computer. This will ensure
that any recent updates
to the WU/MU controls get registered in the System32 folder. Then
follow the steps in this article:

Do those two files exist in your System32 folder? Please do a Restart
(to clear any pending events) and then verify the existence of those two
files.

Not sure about the "wucups(2).dll" part of the error, having never
encountered that before. Is there a file by that name on your system?
