I am having the same Windows Update problems as a lot of others seem to be
having. Mine with a new Full install of Win XP and updated to sp2. I get the
0XC80003FA error along with the following Event Viewer error (Esent) when
this happens.

I have tried most all of the fixes suggested with this group, several times
with no improvement. (ie shut dwn Windows update, rename SD folder and
restart WU then clearing IE items. Installed latest msxml3.msi and ran
MSXML3msms.exe

Is there anything else i could try..? anything in this first Event error
that makes sence?

(Also see note at bottom for more background on this comp and history of
this problem.)

Thanks M.H.

Originally, installed a second HD (20gb) in this computer and partitioned
and formatted for a fresh install.

Installed Win XP sp1, (copied over old acct e-mails and docs etc...) then
using Windows update site on the web proceeded to fully update, encountered
a few hiccups along the way, then started seeing Iexplorer errors and IE
shutdown problems. So I decided to start all over again, thinking I just had
a bad install. This time I formatted and repartitioned the original HD
(120gb) and started all over again, and encountered the same problems. 3rd
time, I reformatted the 1st HD (20gb) and reinstalled with a different known
good XP CD (suspecting a bad CD was causing this.) This last time everything
seemed to be working good, I went to the update site one last time just to
make sure it was fully updated and suddenly I'm having all the same troubles
all over again...

Totally Exhausted,
