Bill, i all ready did and read the pasted link you posted, I also allready
requested the hotfix from MS but
im confused, It talks about partitioning or not recognizing a partition, now
im doing a clean install with a clean harddrive and after the key input it
asks where i want to install the OS its like its not seen the HD. It also
reads no drivers where found for the mass storage device for installation so
it leads me to believe it has to do with not detection the HD.

now please help dont give me posts or links, if you dont know or have the
answer or don't want to help dont waste my time or yours, I have read so many
posts about this problem and no solution except for a hotfix like the OS has
allready been installed. this is BTW, a clean install. not partitions etc...

if you need more info ask and i will reply. Thanks for trying to help but
unless you have a real solution please dont post me links. thank you.

You have to give much more specifics to help people to grasp your situation.

What kind of install is it? Where did you get the DVD? or perhaps you
downloaded it from a website? Did you purchased it from a retail store?

Do you have the product key? Does this problem happened after you entered
the key or before?

What kind of machine is it? How old is it? if it is 5 years old or better,
forget about Vista.

Do you have enough space on you HDD? Etc., etc, etc. Please provide as much
documentation as possible.

Sad you didn't appreciate my attempt to help - but as AlexB said, if you
don't post enough details on your problem and the attempts you have made
already,it is very hard for anyone to assist.

I won't give you a link (as you request) but if you search you will find the
MVP's recommended guide to a "goodpost".

I have a similar problem. I just built my own computer which workes jus
fine and it is VERY new. I bought Windows Vista Upgrade by acciden
instead of Windows Vista System Builders. Anyway, i installed it and m
product key didnt work, so i did it without it. well i started to get t
the the end of the 30 day trial thing, so i invited my friend over t
help me. he brought a firewire card and Windows 2000 professional so
backed up the files i had already installed. We then erased the har
drive, restarted off the Windows 2000 professional and formatted th
hard drive. well after we formatted the hard drive and had it set up
the partitions wouldnt work. it wanted to do it on the 80GB partition
not the 400 GB partition. so we decided that i would just use hi
Windows Vista Product Key to open my account up. So i put it in m
Windows Vista Upgrade disk, clicked Install, put in my friend's produc
key, and then got error 0xE0000100. So i did what the message said an
restarted the installation. same thing happened again. I do belive i pu
enough information. If you have any help or links, please e-mail me a
. thank you

Hi,

You have to do more than just format, you need to remove the Vista-created
partition and rebuild it with Win2K's setup disks.

As to installing Vista with the upgrade key, you just need to do it twice:
the first time without the key, the second time as an in-place upgrade with
the key.
