Error CODE 31?! HEELLLPPP!!!!

I have a Dell desktop.

I also have upgraded from windows xp to windows vista and installed all of
the required drivers of my hardwares for windows vista. Everything was working
fine, until I noticed a significant slowing of service (from 10mbps to 2.04
mbps with my cable modem service. After discussing it with the Cable
company, we determined that it is a windows error.

When checking the network adapters under device manager, you see the yellow
caution sign. And when reviewing the properties it says Microsoft 6to4
adapter is not functioning correctly.

The device status in the control panel states this error message :

This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers
required for this device. (Code 31)

Please help me to find the solution to this problem.

Thank you

Hi
I've had a similar message. Wonder why no one has replied to your problem?

This just means that the driver you are using is not fully Windows Vista
compatible. Find a newer or updated driver. Should resolve your issues.

Go to Dell's website for your specific model computer and download drivers
for the network adapter (NIC), making sure you select Vista as your
operating system. If you already did this (that's where you got the drivers
to begin with) and there are no Dell updated drivers, replace the network
adapter with one that has drivers for Vista. Assuming you have a desktop
machine, a new NIC costs under $25 and so that's the easiest way to deal
with hardware that doesn't have good drivers for the operating system you
want to run.

Thanks for your reply, but the problem doesn't appear to be related to
needing a Vista driver. The existing driver is a Microsoft file version
6.0.6000.16501 (vista_gdr.070606-1500). This appears to be a Vista version.
This is for the Network Adapter 6TO4 adapter
(c\windows\system32\DRIVERS\tunnel.sys. NOTE Message says "This device is
not working properly because windows cannot load the drivers required for
this device (Code 31). Any other suggestions please? I get the same message
for about 20 of 22 items under Ntework Adapter in Device Manager.

You misunderstood what I was telling you. *Don't* use a Microsoft driver on
an OEM (Dell) machine. Uninstall the one you have and install the one you
get from Dell.

Oh, looking back at this very long thread I see where I got the idea you
have a Dell. You stuck your post into someone else's thread (called
"hijacking"). The original poster had a Dell. This is why it's always
better to make your own post and include all the pertinent details about
your computer, the problem, etc.

If you have an Acer, then you need to go to Acer's tech support site for
your specific model Acer and download that driver. Of course you don't want
to install a Dell driver on an Acer!

Thanks for your helpful reply. When I go to Device Manager, then Network
Adapters, there are about 20 items listed with yellow warning triangles! 3
questions again! 1. Do I have to find the drivers for all these individually?
2. It says these are Microsoft drivers - so why can't Microsoft fix this?
Shouldn't I get the drivers from Microsoft? 3. The error message seems to
indicate it is not the drivers at fault (I think). It says for all 20 approx
items "This device is not working properly because windows cannot load the
drivers required for this device" (Code 31 error).
Does that change things?
Thanks
