Error code 80070005 when trying to install monitor driver update

Windows update just offered a recommended update to my monitor driver. It
failed to install and gave error code 8007005.

The install file shows "HP - other hardware - HP w2207 wide LCD,
recommended, failed, 6/29" No other info. I tried rebooting and
reinstalling several times, to no avail.

I'm running Vista Home Premium SP-1 with all other updates. I'm the only
user acccount with administrator priveleges, and user account control is
turned on.

I'm also unable to get HP's My Display software to run under Vista SP-1. It
fails to launch. It is needed in order to use the portrait (pivot) display
feature of this monitor.

I've been through (literally) six rounds with HP support chat, trying
multiple different ways to uninstall and reinstall, also to no avail. They
basically gave up.

The monitor resolution is fine...but i can't use all its features because
the display software won't work.

Then, suddenly windows auto update offered this driver update...which won't
install.

So...I suspect the problems are related.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks for the info. I found my way there. An incident ticket has been
initiated and the issue will be forwarded to software engineering. Perhaps
a hotfix or a driver update will emerge some day! Until then I'll view my
monitor in landscape, but not portrait...

Were you able to fix your install issue with the HP w2207 Wide LCD Monitor
update issue?

I have the same problem, HP tech support gave up as well, but have a work
around.

My video card is an NVIDIA that was standard equipment on my HP Pavillion
Elite desktop PC. I can rotate the display by entering "Control Panel" and
selecting the NVIDIA Control Panel and rotating the dispaly using the "Rotate
Display" option under the display selection.

The only setback with this is that you must manually rotate the display
using the NVIDIA software instead of the auto rotation feature that the HP My
Display software will provide.

Thanks for replying. No, I was never able to fix the launch issue with My
Display software with HP. I was able to use your instructions on doing so
manually through the NVIDIA control panel. Thanks!

I am experiencing exactly the same install failure problems with HP w2207 for
Wide LCD Monitor, and have found the manual use of the NVIDIA control panel a
useful (even if frustrating) work around.
I am also experiencing a periodic "black screen" each time the screen
attempts to "auto adjust", and this happens more frequently following a
reboot. Does anyone else have this problem as well?

Please share any updates you receive regarding the auto adjustment software.

Thanks, Steve. It worked.

I also found that turning OFF the Data Execution Prevention program in
Vista, now allows HP's My Display software to work properly! It also allows
an older graphics viewer to run and another third party software program!

I was getting the same error message for each... A window would pop up and
say "program X won't run" but DID NOT SAY that it was a conflict with
Vista's Data Execution Program. I found out ultimately by lots of googling.

I turned Data Execution Prevention to OFF, execept for essential windows
services by going to control panel, click on system, click on system
protection, click advanced tab, click settings, click data execution
prevention tab, and finally click on "turn on DEP for essential Windows
programs..."

You can also turn on DEP except for for programs that you add, but I found
this DID NOT work for some progams I wanted to run, so I've left DEP on ONLY
for windows services.

This problem of HP's My Display software not running, as well as several
other programs started only several months ago. So I guess that a security
update changed the DEP to always on for everything...so if any program would
want to run is not "compatible" with DEP it won't run...and the error message
won't tell you!
