Interesting problem: I have Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit OS and windows update
failed twice at updating my Gforce 7600GS video driver. I got the error code
80070103 each time. SO.... I downloaded the latest driver from Nvidia which
is the 32bit version 191.07(8.16.11.9107) dated 10/5/09 and tried to manually
update the driver. At one point during the install process I get an error
message from the Nvidia installer stating: "Setup detected that the Operating
System in use is not Windows Vista[32bit]/Windows 7[32bit]. The setup program
and it's associated drivers are designed to run only on Windows
Vista[32bit]/Windows 7[32bit]. The installation will be terminated".

Very odd since I'm definitely running 32bit Windows 7 Ultimate and the
driver version windows installed during (full)installation was 8.15.11.8593
dated 5/14/09.

Basically, the 80070103 error means that Plug and Play can't find a
better match than the currently installed drivers.

Although the below is for Vista, see if you can do a manual installation
using these directions on Win7 :

Windows Vista Forceware Display Driver Manual Installation

As to the benefits derived from installing the latest driver vs. the one
currently installed ... are there any issues with the display adapter ?
If not and if this were my system ... if it ain't broke ... you know the
rest. <w>

Thanks for the link. I was searching around Nvidia site and hadn't come
across that
article. I'll give it a try.

As for the need to update to the newer driver. There really isn't a pressing
need, but
I alway like to keep my software up to date and usually updating a driver
equates to
better performance. I know this is not always the case, as some drivers can
be buggy,
although I do find that to be a rare occasion with Nvidia's stuff. If the
manual update
doesn't work, I'll leave it be for now. I'm sure as Windows 7 matures,
things like this
will become a thing of the past.

Thanks again for your response
