Hi -
I am running Vista home premium edition on a dell inspiron E1705.
Each day I get a message that windows can't check for updates.
When I open Windows Update and click on "check for updates", I get a message
saying "Install new Windows Update Sotware - To check for updates, you must
first install an update for WIndows Update. Your automatic updating settings
will not change". After I hit install now, I get error code 80070426 saying
Windows cound not search for new updates.
After doing some research online, I found a lot of postings that refered to
the CryptSvc service saying I should get into the properties by right
clicking on the srevice and change the Startup Type to Automatic.
When I try to right click on CryptSvc in Services, I get a different error
message as follows:
1st Message "Configuration Manager: A general internal error occured"
2nd Message "the resource loader failed to find MUI file"
I haven't been able to install any updates since 7/11/07.
This is so frustrating, please help!!!

I need help! I have a HP-DV9308NR w/Turion TL-52,2gb,etc. On 9/19/07 I
installed what would turn out to be my last Win Vista update. 2 hours
later I installed Norton Internet Security '08. And since that time
I've not been able to get anymore updates. I get error code 80070426.
WTF? I checked around and almost all say to enable the "Cryptographic
Server". Well,I checked mine. And it's on. So,what do I do? I can't
get to my Control Panel. I have to get there in a round about way. I
can't access my "View Installed Updates". But,I can view my "View
Update History". Because I can't view the former,I can't un-install my
last update to see if that will do any good. My "Win Defender" won't
update either. Any,and all help/advice would be appreciated. LIVE
FREE. P.S. I have tried un-installing my Norton
Int.Sec. I did uninstall it. Tried to fix my 80070426 problem as best
as I could. Searching everywhere on my laptop. All to no avail. After
all that. I re-installed the Norton Int. Sec. because it works really
well. It really does! PEACE.
