Automatic update tells me I have 1 important update to install.

windows vista service pack 1 (KB936330). I download but it will not install.
Gives error code 80070490.

Any ideas on how to resolve the problem.

I have been looking around and is seems to be that it will not update
without the service pack 1 CD. Is this correct???

I bought this computer with Vista Home Premium a little over a year ago so I
do not have a service pack 1 CD. What next?

KB936330 *is* Service Pack 1 for Vista. Have you attempted a manual
download of the entire SP ?

Microsoft support offers free support for SP1 issues [you can find the links
usual in PA Bear's posts]. Do a search for the error code in this group or
Google it.

Try a clean boot [i.e. disable all startup app, disable all non-Microsoft
services, and reboot. See if it installs. You don't need any CD or DVD to
install.
