Are you attempting to install Vista SP1 via Windows Update?

KB936330 is a KB article which describes how to uninstall Vista SP1 Release
Candidate (among other things). Do you or did you ever have a Vista SP1
Release Candidate installed?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)?
