I am getting this exact same error. Microsoft online support has been less
than helpful

Same here, clueless on how to get around it. have 3 PC's this is the only
machine I am willing to send out as the tester, but can't get it to download.
Can't find any info through google on this error.

It looks as though this error code has to do with users who have altered
their bootscreens with something like Style Xp or whatever; thanks to user
MWSolutions, we've got a fix:

Just do a search for the file boot.ini Start -> Search ->
For files or Folders. If you havent already done so you
are going to have to enable the option to display hidden
files or folders since the boot.ini is a protected OS
files. In the search screen click Tools -> Folder
Options -> 'View' tab, make sure Show Hidden Files and
folders is checked and also uncheck Hide protected
operating system files. Click OK and do a search for
boot.ini and open it up in notepad.

Under [Operating systems] Look for the Microsoft Windows
XP line

It should look something like this
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Micro soft
Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect

If there is anything after /fastdetect delete it save the
file and reboot.

You also MAY want to make a backup of your original
boot.ini and save it as booini.old in case something goes
wrong you can just rename it boot.ini and be on your way.

[boot loader]
timeout=5
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microso ft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect

that's what i got in there now... and it's still not working

I have XP Home Edition...not XP Professional Edition. I modified my boot.ini
file line to say

[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS = "Microsoft Windows XP Home
Edition" /fastdetect

I rebooted the machine and then attempted the XP SP2 download. I was 100%
successful.

Hope this helps!
