I get this Error Code: 80246008 while trying to install SP2 . Nothing in the
MS site has helped me so far, I have tried everything that is remotely
related to the problem. Any suggestions?

BTW, my BITS won't start, any help there too? I think that might be the
problem, but I cannot find a fix.

Hi

From a previous post about this error number:

From: Lokesh Dave [MSFT]
Subject: Re: Error Installing SP 2
Newsgroups: microsoft.public.windowsupdate
Date: 2004-08-29 21:10:14 PST

This is probably because your BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer
Service) service is disabled. To enable BITS, open the services applet
(run services.msc from start | run) and double click on the Background
Intelligent Transfer Service. After that set the startup type drop
down box to be 'Manual'.

It tells me "could not start BITS on local computer"

What do I do now?

I am at my wits end.

How do I revert to the original config? I am a little
brain fried at the moment.

I had the same same problem regarding BITS not starting. To solve the problem
I did this: in Services I right clicked BITS and choose properties and,
before starting it, went to Log On and clicked "Local System account". Then
started BITS. It worked for me. From then on, all the Windows updates
downloaded like a charme.

Had same problem. Went thru a lot of the threads for this issue. Managed to
start BITS tho' & updates now work. As mentioned on previous threads within
properties for BITS set startup type to Manual then on LogOn tab ensure Local
is selected. At bottom of this tab is a Hardware Profile. Click on the
Original Configuration & enable it. It worked for me - lets hope you have
same success.
