First of all, I am the administrator of the account. Secondly, there are no
parental controls assigned through MSN on my account or the sub-accounts.
Here's my issue. I downloaded and installed the newest Messenger version
(2008). When I tried to sign in I received an error message stating that this
was an MSN Premium Parental Controls account and that I needed to install
version 8.1 or earlier.
I have tried uninstalling Messenger all together and installing the newest
version. I have tried this several times with the same result. Yet, my
husband and daughter were able to install it and use it on their computers
just fine, no issues.
I am completely lost on this one.

Hi, I had the exact same problem for my two kids' messenger accounts. After
doing a lot of reading, what finally worked was to register with Windows Live
OneCare Family Safety. I clicked on the link and transferred their accounts
from Parental Controls to OneCare. Works fine now.

Thanks for your reply Dee. However, the account in question is not a child's
account. It is my own account (account manager). It won't even let me access
the Parental Controls or to register with OneCare Family Safety. For some
reason MSN is viewing the account manager as a child's account.

I have a similar problem. My son's MSN account works on my old laptop
(XP) but not on my new one (XP) or his new one (Vista). It is being
blocked by "Parental Controls". We did turn on Parental Controls on his
new laptop, but have since turned it off. But at no time did we ask it
to block MSN. Why has his account been blocked? And why does it work on
some machines and not on others? Is it the version of MSN? And how do I
get it unblocked?

I am having the same problem with my three sons' accounts. Mine works
fine, but theirs does not unless I turn off parental controls, which I
don't want to do.
