When I try to download the following updates for office 2003:

KB 917151
KB 914455

It says that they could not be installed correctly and the error code
0x8007006E comes out. How can I solve this problem?

I've only seen that code once before. Please try the following generic
solutions
and questions:

1. Have you ever allowed a Registry Cleaner to run on this PC (such as the
one at Windows Live Safety Center)?

2. Have you installed or uninstalled a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM on this PC?

3. Please disable or uninstall all third-party anti-virus, anti-malware,
firewall, or download accelerators. Now try the update again. DId that
work?

4. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884298

Please reply with information on what worked and what didn't.

1) I ran the windows live safety center 4 times, and every time while it was
running the virus and spyware exam, a notice came out saying: 1 virus found,
0 files detected. But after the whole scan finished, the report indicated
that no spyware or virus detected.

Also, I still cannot install the updates.

2) Do you mean reinstalled the whole software package? (Windows XP)

3) No. Before I had norton 2004 installed, the problem started there. Now I
uninstalled it and I am using Mcafee (1 week ago)

4) I have not tried this step yet.

If you have run the Windows Live Safety Center, then that damages Windows so
that you cannot install Office updates. That was the point of me asking
that question. It was *not* an invitation to go and do the damage.

My question was whether you had ever installed or removed CD or DVD drive
hardware.

1) I meant, that I ran it four times since you mentioned it to me, (I have
never used this scan before) I just wanted to make sure about that " 1 virus
, 0 files detected notice".

2) No.
