I haven't had an error code for my unable to successfully install update
problems. Is there a place to find information that would enable me to track
down an error code that may lead me to resolving this issue?

Hi,

For WU v5 and up, you would need to look in "WindowsUpdate.log",
no space in the name.

Hi,

Some log files you need to look at to see if you can find any hints
for why it doesn't install (you might want to post back here e.g.
the 30 last lines in WindowsUpdate.log, and also state what OS and
service pack you have):

%windir%\WindowsUpdate.log (no space in the file name!)

and
%windir%\SoftwareDistribution\ReportingEvents.log

and
%windir%\KBxxxxxx.log (where xxxxxx is the number of the update,
note that this file will not always exist.)

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows or C:\Winnt)

Note that the text goes pretty far out to the right on the
ReportingEvents.log file, turn off any line wrapping in your text
editor.

and:
