error group policy service failed the logon

hi
i recently received this error on trying to log into a windows vista pc
connected to a w2k3 sbs r2 domain. If i log on as a different user the pc is
fine, but when i deleted the user account, recreated it using the same
profile, i received this error again.
any thoughts?
have checked event logs, nothing there looks to be related to this.
