Just tried to install all the new updates today ( XP PRO SP2) and all
installed except KB 886903 .net framework security update. Received this
error message during install:

Application has generated an exception that could not be handled.
process id-0x970(2416)
Thread id-0x974 ( 2420)

Click OK to terminate application
cancel to debug

clicking cancel generated another error about the debug program.

Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bob

I had the same problem. 10 updates, all installed except the .net framework.
When I ran windows update again it showed I needed KB 886903. When I
clicked the patch it showed it was a 0 KB file size.

I get this too. However the following procedure works for me:

1. Download the KB files at http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms05-004.mspx. For
instance I downloaded NDP1.0sp3-KB886906-X86-Enu.exe and NDP1.1sp1-KB886903-X86.exe.

2. Open a command prompt in the directory containing the files. Then run
"NDP1.0sp3-KB886903-X86-Enu.exe /Xp:." without the quotes (there's a colon and a dot at the end).
That extracts the patch file itself to the same directory. In my case I got M886903.msp and
M886906.msp.

3. Right click on the patch file and click Apply.

I tried installing several times, both as part of Update and with local
download, but each time get a similar problem (SLCx.tmp error--screencap at
http://img68.exs.cx/img68/8331/windowsupdate9ap.jpg )

Anyone have further ideas?

btw I'm using Win2k SP4

Thanks for the tip on Windows Installer Cleanup. I used it and then I looked
at the "Further details" section of the Security fix and followed it through
until I was able to download the fix for XP Pro SP2
(NDP1.1SP1-KB88603-x86.exe).

I ran it and it worked fine.

I tried Dobos solution but apparently they havechanged the page and the files
as I could not find them. SO I am still without this patch installed properly.

Hi

Nothing have been changed on the Web page
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sec.../ms05-004.mspx

You need to press the + sign in front of "Microsoft .NET Framework 1.0"
or "Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1" depending on what version you have
installed to find the download links.
