Error when installing Win XP Pro sp2

Hello:

Had to do some repair to my PC and now when I try to run sp2 downloaded from
Microsoft, somewhere during the mid part of upgrade, I am getting the
following errors:

"Exception Information
Code: 0xc0000005 Flags: 0x00000000
Record: 0x0000000000000000 Address: 0x000000007c929116"

"Error Signature
App Name: update.exe. AppVer: 5.5.1005.0 AppStamp: 40f8193a
ModName: ntdll.dll. ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 ModStamp: 411096b4
fDebug: 0 Offset: 00029116"

Will certainly appreciate if I can some help on this to complete the sp2
install. I had also issue with installing Microsoft installer 3.1.

I fixed the problem. First I had to apply all the security updates and other
updates available for sp1, then, installed MSI installed 3.1 and then, sp2.
Everything worked fine later.
