Error installing WUA Client 3.0 on Vista

When I try to install the WUA Client 3.0 x86 on Vista I get error 0x80070653

Any ideas please ?

Download the WUA for x86 from here and save it:

Close the browser and any other open programs
Right click WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe and choose 'Run as administrator'
Did that get it installed ?

Because windows update is trying to install it ... and failing.

I see no reference to WUA 3.0 in the log you posted, Michael, so we might
assume that the updated version of WUA 3.0 already been installed and
something else is amiss.

Before checking in at Windows Update again, ensure that you have disabled
all 3rd-party anti-virus, anti-spyware, popup-blocker, download accelerator,
or firewall. If you disabled a 3rd-party firewall, re-enable Windows
Firewall for the duration.

If you're running any Norton application, try uninstalling it altogether.

Well, you might assume that it has been installed. I see nothing to suggest
this.
And in the log that I posted, you will see that it errors out with
WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-TopLevel.cab - and this is part of the WUA Client
3.0 so clearly is has failed to install.

In addition, each time I check for updates, WU attempts to install the new
client.
Also checking the dll versions still report version 6.0 and the latest
client should be 7.*

So at the moment I'm stuck with WU trying and failing to install the latest
version.

Before checking in at Windows Update again, ensure that you have disabled
all 3rd-party anti-virus, anti-spyware, popup-blocker, download accelerator,
or firewall. If you disabled a 3rd-party firewall, re-enable Windows
Firewall for the duration.

If you're running any Norton application, try uninstalling it altogether.
