Error in KB909444 explation for problem with patch for MS05-051

Microsoft's explanation as to the possible causes of the problem described
in KB909444 appears to be either incorrect, incomplete, or misleading.

I have a machine that was running winXP SP1 with simple file sharing. With
simple file sharing, it is impossible to change the protection level on any
file or folder in the system folder (Windows or WinNt). I installed the SP2
update from the update CD provided by Microsoft. As part of the update
process, all post SP2 updates automatically download from the Microsoft site
and are installed. My machine has the exact problems described in KB909444.
It is physically impossible for me to have modified files or folders in the
windows director from the default settings.

Any ideas?

Yeah.... turn off simple filesharing... make the permission change..
and if you want it.. turn simple filesharing back on.
