I received security updates last night. When it tried to load, I got the
message
The following updates did not install:
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 1.1 Service Pack 1
(KB928366)

I've tried repeatedly to run the update, but get the same message everytime.
What is this upgrade for? Is it something I need to have installed? What
do I need to do to get rid of the update box? If I x out, the update symbol
stays at the bottom of my screen.

If you install dotnetfx, KB867460, then KB928366 will install correctly.

Hi there: you have one of two options to try here.I had same problem last
nite and resolved this issue by uninstalling the original .NET framework 1.1
through add/remove programmes. It appears that the problem is to do with an
older hotfix that is present in the framework. So unistall the framework and
any hotfix ascociated to the .NET framework 1.1 . Restart computer and if the
little yellow icon is still present in your task bar saying you have to
install the update (KB928366) then click > install. As framework has been
uninstalled then update will no longer apply and icon will disappear.
Now go back to windows update and re-install the .NET framework 1.1 and
ascociated updates including the service pack update and lastly the update
KB928366. It should be fine .
Your second option is to uninstall all the 3 .NET frameworks and reinstall
again from scratch but option 1 should work. cheers Scott.

I have the same exact problem. I thought I would try to fix it by
ininstalling all of the Microsoft .NET entries under the "Add/Remove
Programs" in Control Panel and then re-installing all of the .NET updates,
but when I tried removing ".NET 1.1" and ".NET 1.1" hotfix it was unable to
locate the .tmp file it needed in order to uninstall, so that strategy won't
work. Doesn't MS test its updates before it releases them? Shoddy QC like
this just encourages people to turn off Automatic Updates.

If you can't uninstall .Net Framework 1.1, just manually download it from
the MS Download Center here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
Save it to your Desktop and run it to re-install right over the old
installation.

Also Download and save to Desktop;
..Net Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 from here
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
and Hotfix KB886903 from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

After you re-install all 3; KB928366 should install OK.

Good Luck
