error mesage - 0x80072EE4

Unable to find the solution for this error. Can someone please assist me to
rectify this as I am unable to update windows.

this worked for one user:
Go to Tools->Internet Option->Advanced tab Scroll down to security Section and
unselected the following option

"Check for publisher's certificate revocation"
"Check for server certificate revocation"

Make sure your Firewall isn't blocking access to Windows Update. Check your
Firewall settings

How the Windows Update client determines which proxy server to use to connect to
the Windows Update Web site

this (both suggestions, the unchecking and the running) worked the first time
that WU didn't work, but after three downloads and installations, the last
one being Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer for Windows XP
(KB912812), the error re-appeared and this solution does not work anymore...

We need some help on this error ya'll

Run winsockfix.exe and this problem was fixed

download pgm from here: http://www.tacktech.com/display.cfm?ttid=257

or try this: netsh winsock reset (in dos command)

The netsh winsock reset seemed to do the trick for me! This was after
trying *every* single suggestion from this newsgroup about the infamous
0x80072EE4 problem.
