My thanks to everybody out there that suggested solutions to this problem.
Note that I do not use a web accelerator, and had changed nothing on my
computer. Windows Update/Microsoft Update just stopped working. I do use
Norton Internet Security as my firewall, but disabling that had no effect.
Also registered the recommended DLL's, and that didn't help. The only thing
that worked was updating the trusted zone in IE options to add the
Windows/Microsoft update web addresses and reduce the security level in the
trusted zone to low. That works.
