I can see a reply for to this one dated 11/06 but not the complete answer.

When I try to get updates for vista home premium I receive the following
error message "80245003 try again."

I would be grateful for any help. This problem has started since I tried to
use system restore.
I have tried various restore points but always receive the same message that
system restore was unable to restore my system.
I have since used "undo" to leave my system as it was.

I will be very happy for any help concerning windows updates.
Thx.

Thx for your reply. I followed the instructions on the link above which
instructed me to do the following:

"Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop. "

Unfortunately after following above "services (Local)", opens and there is
no file for automatic updates. I also followed instructions to go to
control panel and changed setting to "show hidden files and folders",
restarted the computer followed Start , run, services.msc instructions etc:
but still no Automatic Updates service file shows.
Any other ideas?
THX

I have found the reply below does any one else agree this may solve my
problems?

I found a very simple fix based on some of the suggestions I read posted

All roads lead to Rome, Glad you got it fixed. If you read down in reply I
sent it proposes several variations should you run into trouble again. Had
the same problem last week and it worked for me.

Sorry I was misunderstood in previous post I wanted to know whether it was
safe to delete "SoftwareDistribution" folder before I did so.

I have since deleted most files, started computer and have been running
windows updates for over 20 minutes!
I hope this is no a bad omen!

No, don't delete the entire folder- no need. Deleting the individual files
was fine, so my advice is leave well enough alone.

Deleted individual files, no change. Except now error code 80072EE2.
Also added
http://*.update.microsoft.com

https://*.update.microsoft.com

http://download.windowsupdate.com

to trusted zone. Still nothing works. Am starting to panic

This is a live report so to speak after trying various things to update my
computer without success.

Have turned off firewall restarted the computer and tried the following:
1. Just gone direct ot windows update website and received following
message.

To install updates from this website, you must be logged on as an
administrator or a member of the Administrators group on your computer. If
you use Windows XP, you can see if you are an administrator by going to User
Accounts in Control Panel.

2. Gone to "Tools" in IE7 and windows update:
The message says "To check for updates you must first install an update of
Windows Update.
Clicked on install and received message "Downloading and installing
updates....."
Update then closed and restarted to check for updates.

Aha looks like success am now downloading 14 mb of updates.

It seems the firewall has to be turned off for some reason!!!!!!

I am using windows home premium and an administrator. In fact there are no
other guest accounts!
