I deleted all the contacts in the Outlook Contacts and now when I try to sync
my HTC PDA it fails and give out the error message 'ActiveSync encountered a
problem on the desktop'. Office diagnostics hasn't been able to cure the
problem. I have restored the deleted contact but it still will not sync and
the error message still appears. Any ideas?

Have you tried recreating the partnership?

Recreating the partnership has deleted all the contact entries on the phone
except 8. Appaling error - and don't say it's user error, I simply followed
instructions. Now I'm worse off than before; how do I get the 300 contact
entries back?

A "repair" of Office (not the .PSTs, Office itself) worked for me today:

Windows 7 Ultimate (x64)/ Office 2010 / Sprint (htc) Mogul / Windows Phone 6.1
