Yes, ZAISS was surely running in the background during install of SP3. It is allways unless I am explicitly told to disable it. I will consider the reasons for (not) using registry cleaners... Unless disabling ZAISS while uninstalling (1) SP3 and then (2) IE7 (if
necessary) resolves the behavior, you're best bet would probably be to back up your personal data, format your HDD and do a clean install of Windows. I'd very much doubt that a Repair Install would fix this. And in order to do a Repair Install successfully, you'd have to uninstall SP3 and then IE7 first (again with ZAISS disabled): About IE7 & IE8 and Windows XP Service Pack 3 http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...and-xpsp3.aspx How to perform a repair installation of Windows XP if a later version of Internet Explorer is installed: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917964 So if you have to go that far anyway, why not do a clean install which would guarantee success? Wish I had better news for you. jiger wrote: > Yes, ZAISS was surely running in the background during install of SP3. YW & thanks for your feedback. This was indeed a rigorous excercise for me,
too, and we wouldn't have gotten anywhere without your cooperation in the process. jiger wrote: > I will consider your suggestions tomorrow. It was sufficient to uninstall SP3 to solve the problem completely!
Then install of IE8 and 44 (!) updates from Windows update. It took about 2 hours. Again thanks for your well-advised and patient support! "PA Bear [MS MVP]" wrote: > YW & thanks for your feedback.
