Error message - Internet Explorer must sign off

I have had Windows XP- Home SP1 for 5 years and had no problem staying on a
website for unlimited periods of time. About 1 Feb 2007, Internet Explorer
began shutting down on me after various time periods; 1 minute to 10 minutes.
Today's Erroe report:
APPNAME: 1explore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106
ModName: mshtml.dll ModVer: 6.0.2800.1561
Offset: 001853ec
Included in Erroe Report:
C:\DOCUME~1\MILESB~1\locals~1\TEMP\WER969.tmp.dir0 0\appcompat.txt

How can I stop Internet Explorer from shutting down on me?
