"MPearl",
I am sorry that you are hitting this issue. We need a little more
information. Based on the fact that you mention v5, can I assume you are
running Windows XP?
Assuming that is the case, which update are you trying to download?
Please retry the WindowsUpdate website for the failure, but do two things
before obtaining the failure:
1. Perform all of the steps except the last step in reproducing the failure.
2. Watch your system clock and wait to launch the last step until the clock
moves forward one minute. Remember this time.
After performing the Windows Update attempt and failing, please copy the
failure and paste it back here as a reply to this posting. Here's how:
a. Click Start
b. Click Run
c. Type or copy: %windir%\windowsupdate.log
d. Type the <Enter> key or click OK
e. After the log opens, move down to the bottom of the log by typing
<CTRL>
and the <End> keys.
f. Move up the log to the time you memorized earlier as the beginning of
the
attempt.
g. Select the beginning of the line for that time entry, and select
everything below it to the end of the log, by clicking and dragging the
cursor down and to the right.
h. Press <CTRL> and then <C> key for copy.
i. Reply to this posting within the group.
j. After the window opens, Press <CTRL> and then <V> to paste the log
entries into the posting.
k. Tell us, at the top of the post, which download you attempted to
install, and what time you purposely launched the failed Windows Update
attempt.
l. Post the reply with the log entries.
Sincerely,
Pat Walters [MSFT]
