Error Message regarding SXS.DLL

I keep getting the following error message on my pc and all of a sudden my
speakers don't work.... can anyone tell me how to fix this?

"The application or DLL c:\WINDOWS\system32\SXS.DLL is not a valid windows
image. Please check against your installation diskette."

I can still use my computer but if I leave it on and idle I get this message
and then have to restart as I can no longer use my desktop.
