Error message -"ThunkConnect32. Failure",Updates unsuccessful

For sometime now I have been unable to successfully download Windows
Security updates from the site due to this error message - Titled "W95 Inf32
DLL" "ThunkConnect32 Failure".
How do I overcome this problem, considering I am a layman at dealing with
Computer problems.
My operating system is "Windows 98SE"
