Error Message: Windows could not update the computers boot configuration

I am trying to install vista ultimate but I am getting stuck at the
following error message;

Error Message: Windows could not update the computers boot configuration

There is no suggestion on what to do to fix the problem and installation
just ends.

Any ideas.

I am trying to install to a new partition on a PC that already contains XP
in a different partition.

Hi Sandy,

Disable a) your antivirus software and b) any boot time protection in the
system BIOS. That error occurs because Vista setup is unable to write to the
mbr.
