Error messagem in system restore

Hi
I have a ASUS labtop using vista buissnes and the system as crashed and
i can't even re-boot my system (installed a program not compatible with
vista?)
I made backups of my stuff using a gentoo cd...
Now i tried to do use the DVD to restore the system, following the
manufacturers instructions but after selecting the options for restoring
the system a white screen apears with ERROR writen in large letters
ocuppying the entire screen and in the top right corner the following
message: can't create a temp directory to write in

Can you help me please
I don't know what to do

Sounds like the file system or partitioning has been corrupted, or the
disc may have crashed coincidentaly and your problems have nothing to do
with software. Get a DOS disc with chkdsk and fdisk on it or use a linux
version such as knoppix if you're comfortable with it and use it to examine
and format the disc.
