Error messages and messenger downloads

I own an acer aspire 3690 and when trying to load the latest version of msn I
receive an error message 0x80070652. I have also had messages that say - I am
downloading (a) a version older than a current setting or (b) another
installation is in progress. the kids have used msn successfully on this for
ages - whats going wrong? My son also has a much older gateway computer and
we managed to load it for 1 hour but its now disappeared. We receive (a)
another installation is in progress or (b) an error code which ends in
8000fffff. Both machines work on Windows XP.
Any help would be much appreciated - when the webcam was working on the
older machine, it seemed quite fun!

As a "quick fix", your best bet may be to run ZapMessenger:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/redir/zapmessenger.asp

And then install the latest released version by downloading and running the following MSI
(Microsoft Installer) file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/redir/wlm85.asp

Hopefully after that you'll be good to go and you'll find Messenger under the Windows Live
section of the Start menu.
