I accepted Service pack 2 updates (using Vista) and also accepted optional
updates on NVIDIA. After restart it gives error 80070103 against a failed
update for NVIDIA Geoforce, and the monitor settings are all for "default
monitor". I have no way of finding the actual monitor settings (Iiyama
ProLite) as they don't appear anywhere on hardware etc in control panel. I
have tried disconnecting the monotor and hopin it will reset as plug and play
but it won't. How do I get the system to recpognise the right monitor and
have the right drivers?

Get the proper drivers from NVidia and never get non-Microsoft drivers from
a Microsoft site again. ;-)

"Hide" the driver update.

Suggest you try the following:

Open Device Manager. Open Display Adapters. Right click on Nvidia and
select Properties. Select the Driver tab. In the list on left, click on Roll
Back Driver to install the driver in use before you applied the update.

Do a web search for Iiyama. Contact their customer service for the settings
for your monitor. The label of the monitor is not important so Default
Monitor is as good a name as any provided the settings are correct. Iiyama
web site states they make LCD monitors. Settings for a default LCD monitor
may be the correct settings for your monitor. Does not hurt to check.

Tell Iiyama customer service what did. They may have other suggestions.

If your attempt to install the failed update did not make any changes to the
Nvidia driver, using Roll Back Driver should return a null result that there
is nothing to roll back.
