Error msg: 80073712 during update. Cannot delete pending file

I've been reading the posted threads regarding this issue. As suggested in a
thread on 2-9 by Alicia, I located the pending .xml file but could not delete
it. I tried right clicking on it and went into properties, then security in
order to allow full control, but it would not allow me to complete that task.
Deleting the file manually would not work either. I then went to the
microsoft website as suggested by TaurArian and tried to update windows
update, but that also failed, it just opened windows update on my system.
