I received that error code 80080005 when trying to install Microsoft .NET
Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.5 Family Update (KB951847)
x86 on my computer (Vista Home Premium, SP1).

I did a quick google search and came across the old 'turn off you anti virus
and firewall' tip. Since I had that issue with the SP1 update I tried that
and then I successfully updated my computer.

I learned a lesson that I had forgotten - when I see the phrase 'Service
Pack' I will remember to turn off my McAfee firewall and antivirus
temporarily.

Just passing this on. Dave Horne

I had a similar problem with this update: download OK , but could not install.

After temporaly disabling my Norton Anti-Virus software and closing all
other programs The installation was completed in about 1.5 mins.

Thanks very much for your advice

Every time I had Windows Update try to install this update, the computer
restarts and goes through the "Configuring Updates" part. After rebooting
for step 3, it keeps stating that the updates were configured incorrectly and
reverts to the previous state before the update.

These roobtos also take quite a while. Is there any one else having this
type of issue? I even tried having it install with my anti virus software
turned off and had the same results.

Just an observation...but I noticed that article was last reviewed in October
2006.....and personally, not ever hearing about what it's saying about
excluding files for scanning, I've scanned my machines (both Vista 32 and 64)
countless times, and never had any problems.
Perhaps that issue has been fixed with updates/service packs since then.

True.....speaking of AV programs.......never really been a fan of
Symantec/Norton, but I heard that they completely re-did their AV software
for 2009 so I gave it a shot.
I must say that it's night and day from the older versions. Very cool.....a
number of new useful features.....much faster, especially on boot....less
resources used w/meters to monitor.....has a 'silent mode' to turn off things
for gaming/full screen programs, along with option to completely shut down
'auto-protect' for same.
As you can probably tell....I'm actually impressed.
(Sorry about the off topic rant)
