I've been having trouble with failing updates since last month. All seem to
be related to Windows Installer not being accessible, and all the fixes from
Microsoft Technicians have not worked (Still awaiting further response from
my support request which I think they have forgotten about since I replied
saying that their fixes failed) All fixes suggested in this forum have not
worked either.

However now the Microsoft update website no longer works at all and gives
the above error number.

The 'find solutions' Options does not list 'Vista' in the "Select an
operating system drop down box".

Vista Home Prem 32bit
Office 2007 Enterprise HUP
Internet Explorer 8
Comodo Internet Security 3.9
Advanced System Care 3.3.3

I've 'upgraded' to Windows 7 Release Candidate and got rid of comodod and
replaced it with widows firewall and avg. Windows update seems to work, but
the change to look for other microsoft products via microsoft update still
doesn't work, but this time it says I need to be logged on as an
administrator (which I am). So I'm still confused. Maybe I'll try a clean
install or a roll back to vista factory settings (clean reinstall) and see
what happens.
At the moment I'll first try and install the Office SP2 standalone and see
what hjappens this time (It didn't work before because of the Windows
Installer error).

Win7 RC isn't supported in this newsgroup. Try...

Windows 7 Beta Support Forum (technical)
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...egory/w7itpro/

Getting Ready for Win7 Forum (less technical)
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/...ndows7/threads
