dispaly the page you are trying to view. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 (

Windows XP stops responding when you download updates from Windows Update

Go to Start > Run > type in [or copy&paste] the following, clicking OK
or pressing Enter after *each* line -

regsvr32 inseng.dll
regsvr32 mssip32.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 ole32.dll
regsvr32 urlmon.dll

If doing the above does not resolve the issue suggest that you run
sfc /scannow
( If/when prompted for the CD and SP2 is *NOT* included on it, point to
the files located in WINDOWS\ServicePackFile\i386 )

I ran system file checker yesterday on my machine. It did not fix the problem.
Today, I just follow your instructions to register the DLLs. Although,
running regsvr32 on the fisrt one inseng.dll renturned the message,
DllRegisterServer point ws not found. This file can not be registered, the
problem was fixed.

This is the only fix that works for me. Thx ~

You're mowst welcome. Is inseng.dll located in
WINDOWS\system32\dllcache ?
IF so, right click it and choose Properties
Then click the Version tab
It should be at Version 6.0.2900.3086
If it is, then copy it over to WINDOWS\system32 and then register it

The Version installed with SP2 is 6.0.2900.2781
Methinks it was last updated Februaury '07 ... by Microsoft Security
Bulletin MS07-016 -Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (928090)
That Version of inseng.dll is 6.0.2900.3059

The latest Microsoft Security Bulletin MS07-027
Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (931768), updates
inseng.dll to Version 6.0.2900.3086

Is KB931768 installed ?

Mow,

We don't know if IE7 is installed. If so, its version would be current
and it can not be registered. E.g. DependencyWalker shows me
that I have 7.0.5730.11 and there is no DllRegisterServer or DllInstall
entry point.

Earlier versions may have been registerable. Another module which used
to be registerable and now isn't is mshtml.dll. MS seem to be removing
COM stuff from modules more and more.

BTW we need to be somewhat wary of suggesting re-registrations to IE7 users
because (for example) functions in shdocvw.dll have been taken over
by ieframe.dll but that old module (unfortunately) *can* still be registered,
causing at least one minor incompatibility for IE7 users if it is used without
uninstalling IE7. Supposedly RIES is *the* way to repair IE7 (and hence
do all the re-registering that an old IE Repair used to do? at the expense
of all preserved personal information, including passwords? YMMV.) <eg>

FYI

Robert

Thanks for the heads up, Robert. Since I don't have IE7 installed,
perhaps I'll just recommend Users revert to IE6 <w>
Reckon it's time I read up on RIES, I reckon:

How to use Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES)

OUCH ... that's way too much information for the Typical Home User to
digest. Heck, it's TMI for me, too. <g>
