After reinstalling XP SP2 on a com linked using Linksys wifi Adapter,
Internet connection is fine but update site unable to access with Error
number: 0x80072EFD. Even the main computer linked to e linksys router through
ethernet wire is unable to access update site when 3 days ago it was working.
After disabling ZA, XP and Linksys hardware firewall, did not work.

80072efd = "The attempt to connect to the server failed"

Disable all third-party anti-virus, anti-malware, download accelerators, and
firewalls (re-enable Windows Firewall if necessary). Does update work now?

Please open a command prompt window and type the command:

proxycfg

and post the results in a followup. The correct response should be:
"Direct access (no proxy server)."

Use control panel Internet Options, tab Connections, button "LAN Settings"
to check for any proxy configurations.

It is indeed "Direct access (no proxy server)." No proxy server is being used
in LAN connections. It occurs with a completely clean install. It even mess
up the main computer in my room which until today update was working. Now
update do not work in either. All the patches are downloader from the
download site one by one. I tried using MBSA 2.0 it did not have a response
in the reinstalled computer but there was a normal response from the main
computer that is connected to the router directly.
Thank you for your help. I have tried most of e idiot-proof solutions except
those more technical stuffs. I also tried the guided help. I believed it is
a problem with the router and adapter. The strange thing is that errors occur
on both computer after reinstall of XP in the old computer which is using the
wifi adapter. I tried update just 2-3 days ago on the main computer and it
was working.

As an experiment, take the router out of the link, and connect one of your
PCs directly to your ISP. Reboot your modem. Now does Windows Update work?

Restarting the main computer makes the update site works for the main
computer. Have not try the reinstalled computer yet. Come to think of it, i
always told my mum that restarting Windows usually do all the tricks but i
did not practise what i say. Computer really make a fool out of pple.
Thank you very much

Nope after working for a while on the main computer it did not worked again.
Tried connecting to e modem directly, cannot get an IP address. Plug ethernet
wire to reinstalled computer, it worked prefectly, all updates installed
until installing after IE7B3, updates stopped working again on both
computers. It seems like IE7 is causing the problem now but was prefectly
before today.
Sometimes it will worked especially just after restarting but will stop
working after a little while, seem totally random.
I cannot pinpoint the problem to any single issues.
1. The wifi-ed computer will never work for update.
2. The reinstalled computer only worked when connected by wired and only on
IE6.
3. The main computer worked before today, on IE7.
4. The main computer stopped working after the reinstallation on another
computer.
5. The main computer worked twice in IE7 today just after restart, stop
working 20 min after restart.
6. After updating on reinstalled computer, update stop working after
installing IE7b3.
7. The main computer update do not work even just after restarting when it
would have worked just a while ago before the hooking up of reinstalled
computer.

It is a total nightmare. Please help!!!!

You must always reboot your broadband modem when you re-plug the thing
connected to it.
