Error number: 0x80240018

Hi,
Have had constant problems with windows update. Current error reoccuring is
Error number: 0x80240018.
I have updated the DNS and DHCP details as per article#816320 however has
not made any difference.
Does anyone have any solutions as I have not been able to put updates on my
pc for at least 8 months.

I wish I could help, but I can't. However, if it's any consolation, I am
having the identical problem, and it's been ongoing with my computer for
about 3 months now.

Hi Dr Nil,
1. XP Pro SP2, Server 2000 main, server 2003 gateway
2. No
3. No specific update, just generally trying to scan to see if any updates
to get
4. PC is custom made through IT company. Celeron 2.80Ghz, 496 MB RAM

Note that Torgeir's example is for a particular OS
and that he hints at possible differences for another OS;
so if you have two otherwise identical machines
what I would do is export the same key on both machines
and then do a diff of the two exported listings.

Since this appears to be another one of the mysterious SID symptoms,
it may also be an idea to do updates using a different account,
such as the real Administrator.
