error number 0x8024001d, and windows update fails

Hi All,
I get the above error when trying to use windows update.
The scanning seems to work normally, but both express and custom then fail
with the above error when it comes time to display the results of the search.

I can't find any reference to this error anywhere.

IE 6 and IE 7 on the same PC give the same result

Any ideas would be appreciated.

1. Click Start, Run, type: notepad C:\register.bat and press Enter. Choose

Thanks Anton, thats a long fix, The pc owner has gone home now, but I will
try it tomorrow and let you know (its nearly 10:00pm here in NZ)
