Currently using OEM Version Windows XP with SP2 installed. When attempting
to access the windows update site, recieve the following error message:

[Error number: 0x80244017]
Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested
page. You may find the following resources helpful in resolving the problem:
For self-help options:

Windows Update Response Center

Windows Update Troubleshooter

Windows Update Newsgroups

Has anyone else seen this error, and have a solution to correct. Was able
to connect to Windows Update site prior to SP2.

Thanks,

Steve R.

I get the same screen with [Error number 0x80072EE2] XP Home Edition 2002
Service Pack 1 on a fairly new Compaq Presario AMD 3200 64Bit.

Hi

For error 0x80072EE2, please take a look at this post:

http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...TNGP12.phx.gbl

Also note that when using a Firewall, make sure you are not blocking
Svchost.exe (Generic host process for win32 services).

I have been receiving this error since August from v5 of Windows Update. I
have posted here and people point you around at KBs but I have looked at them
and tried every suggestion with no luck.

As best as I can tell, if you are behind an authenticating web proxy
(firewall) you can no longer use Windows Update. If you have some way to
disable the authentication portion you can use Windows Update. If you other
just desktop firewall software you can likely just disable it.

Why MS insists on writing corporate hostile code in this fashion is beyond
me. I can configure the web proxy settings in IE for a reason. They worked
through the firewall for years. If it was a mistake you would think they
would have fixed it by now (over 2 months, I believe).
