Hi:

When I do click on the Windows Update icon in my Windows XP Iy obtain an
error 0x8DDD0004:
Windows Update has encountered and error and cannot show the requested page.
Please try to update the page, delete temporary Internet files, close and
restart Internet Explorer or try access to windows update in other moment.

Before this error I obtain a message regarding active X(Actual
configuration prevents execution of active X controls on this page. It is
possible that the page is not correctly displayed). I have the internet
options correctly configured regardin active X scripting.

Can somebody help me please?

Hello,
This is a new "error exception" for V5 of Windows Update. It translates to "ErrorControlFailed".
On the assumption that this is really "cannot display page" ..... then I'd suggest the following:

Run Disk Cleanup & be sure to delete temporary internet cache files.

Internet Explorer > main menu /Tools/Internet Options >

Security Tab/ click on green icon Trusted Sites/click Sites button.

Click (to clear) "Require server verification (https for all sites in this zone" to **clear** (un-check) the selection.
(A check mark, if present, on this item needs to be Removed.)

In the "Add this Web site to the zone:" field, add these entries to list of "Trusted Sites" --

type
http://www.download.windowsupdate.com (click Add)

http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com

https://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com (with HTTPS )

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

http://download.windowsupdate.com

Click OK.

- - - -
Make sure you are not *disabling* any scripting capabilities in I.E.

Recheck ActiveX acceptance. Instead of disable, try using "prompt".

You need to be sure to delete your temp internet cache files on
a regular & consistent basis. I.E. Tools>Internet Options >Advanced --scroll list.
Advanced Tab>>Security sub-section:
"Enable" (click on to activate or tick) "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed".

Apply changes to I.E. & exit out of it. Retry Windows Update from main Windows start menus.

If still no go, then click this link (or manually enter it into MS Internet Explorer browser )

Be acutely aware of all the other running (open) programs on your pc.
Be acutely aware of all your startup programs. Some of those could likely cause a conflict.
Be sure NOT to be user programs like TweakMaster. Be certain your Hosts file has no specific I.P. address
for microsoft.com in it.
Be sure your firewall has granted full access permissions to Internet Explorer.

If you are running Norton Internet Security, speak up ....you may need to tweak its settings.

If it's a software firewall, which one? (manufacturer & version) and does it have a "Privacy" options or exclusion list ?

Hello Martha,

Error 0x800B0001 is Unknown trust provider.

Have you tried to click this link (or manually enter it into MS Internet Explorer browser )

Try it. See if that helps.

If still no, then do a Selective Startup:

Start > Run
Type "msconfig" (without quotes)

On the Startup Tab,
De-Select all items - disable all
Click Apply, then OK

Reboot, and try Windows Update again.

If error persists, please post the Windows Update.log file.
