Hi

Some log files you can check for any clues or error messages:

%windir%\Svcpack.log
%windir%\setupapi.log

(%windir% is typically C:\Windows)

You could also post the last 20-30 lines from the log files here.

If the log files doesn't say anything "solid", you can enable Verbose
logging, try to install SP2 again and look at setupapi.log if SP2
fails again.

More about this under the "Access denied" section here:

http://www.michna.com/kb/WxSP2.htm#C...Service_Pack_2

Also, before installing SP2, you should take a look at the
following sites:

What to Know Before You Download and Install Windows XP Service Pack 2
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/s...hattoknow.mspx

How to successfully install Windows XP Service Pack 2.
http://www.fixyourwindows.com/winxpsp2install.htm

Service Pack Installation Checklist
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/spackins.htm

For folders you can consider deleting and other disk cleanup tips
after a SP2 installation, take a look here:

Thanks, Torgeir,

I didn't find Svcpack.log, so I post the last part of setupapi.log as
follow. However, it's compiled in Chinese, I have no idea if the codes can
help.

That code doesn't seem to be in the excerpt that you appended
so you haven't found the correct context.

Try searching your harddrive for all files which were modified
on the same day that the error occurred and which contain that code.
Then extract a context for the error (e.g. all messages before and after
it within the same time period.)

Good luck

This doesn't seem to have anything to do with the stated topic: E0434F4D

Is "haynesrah" an new alias for "David" (OP)?
Why is the log suddenly in English instead of Chinese?

Please don't piggyback unrelated incidents in other's threads!

BTW before reposting in this incident's own thread please try a search:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/e...xp=&sloc=en-us

(Communities web interface search for
80070643 MSFT

My are you a little steamed or what. FYI, this is related in that Wayne above
brought up the E043F4D error code being associated with the .NET update and
this was the only post with E043F4D error code at time I post thank you!

Second, this is no alias for DAVID.

Take a chill man.

Pardon my scepticism but your log didn't seem to have that code
in it. It has the 80070643 that I used to do that search for you in it.
BTW it was the first Me too! post which mentioned the .Net update
not the OP.

If you really are seeing the subject code E0434F4D please do the
same search of your harddrive that I suggested to David.
Also in that case Torgeir would probably be interested in seeing
the svcpack.log that he previously requested but which OP claimed
could not be found.

I still think that it will be less confusing for this thread through if you start
your own. Add a reference in here to your new Subject or even a link
to tie the two together if that seems useful.

Finally it would be useful I think if you stated your objectives
in order of priority. For example, if your primary objective is to
install the .Net update there is ample precedent that doing it without
WU may be simpler. OTOH if you are mostly interested in diagnosing
why it can't be distributed by WU or AU then lay on the diagnostics!
