Error openning Office 2003

I just got a new computer with Vista Premium. I installed Office Pro 2003
without a problem.
It runs fine when I log on with my (admin) account. However, if my wife
tries to open Word in her account (general user), Office says it needs to
install a new files and that it can't find PA561401.cab. When I put my
Office disk in, it tells me it can't read it.

Any suggestions?

Short answer: I dunno :-) But ... Office caches its setup files on the
local hard disk; normally you don't actually need to CD-ROM to find setup
files. Set folder options/view to show hidden and system files and folders.
Then look for a folder named MSOcache, and open it at this folder:

C:\MSOCache\All Users\90000409-6000-11D3-8CFE-0150048383C9

and you should hopefully find the cab you need (remember to turn hidden
files OFF again, when you're finished - they are very distracting).

Other folks might have better info; hope this helps a bit.
Andrew

You need to post this message in one of the MSOffice newsgroups. The experts
there should be aware of any problems.
Here is a link.

Since he is using Vista OS and this group is for Vista General Discussion I
think that he posted in the right place.

To answer the question Eric, I had a similar problem with Office and just
kept hitting "cancel" and it stopped popping up. I know this sounds crazy,
but, sometimes these error messages have no merit and I have not had it
happen since. The odd thing about it was the message that kept popping up
kept telling me that I needed to install features that I had not even chosed
during install, but, whenever I tried installing clipart files (my own) this
box would pop up and I would try and put the disk in. You can also try and
manually look for this file through your disk drive. Put the disk in and go
directly to the drive.

That is true, however, since everyone here is using Vista, not everyone here
will have office installed. The experts over on the office newsgroups, on
the other hand, keep track of office programs on all operating systems. If
there is an issue with installing Office 2003 on Vista, they will be aware
of it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll post on the Office forums as well.
Canceling the install does work, but whe Word opens, all my saved settings
are reset. Kinda annoying, but not the end of the world.
