Hi

You need to use Internet Explorer when you access the Windows
Update Web site.

For the 0x800B0001 error:

You may receive an error message when you search for available updates
on the Windows Update Web site
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=883821

I got the same error when downloading updates, but have not found the
corresponding error no. in the information provided below, so can't fix the
problem.

Error code 0x800B0001

Three possible solutions (or reregister all 3):-

Click Start., choose Run.
In the Run box, type: regsvr32 softpub.dll

Click OK.

or

Click Start, choose Run.
In the Run box, type: regsvr32 Mssip32.dll

Click OK.

or

Click Start, choose Run.
In the Run box, type: regsvr32 Initpki.dll

Click OK.

when trying to download updates on microsoft- what is wrong?Any more
suggestions? I downloaded the SP2 not so long ago , maybe this is the root of
the problem?.

Are you using IE to access WU? If not use IE.

Last effort:
Start/Run and type in: regsvr32 wintrust.dll
