Hello Everyone!

I have a Dell poweredge 2800 & WSMBK3 Service Pack 2, 2 Gigs of ram, while
trying to make a System State backup i got this error:

Backup Status
Operation: Backup
Active backup destination: File
Media name: "Backup System State 09112009.bkf created 09/11/2009 at 11:30
p.m."

Volume shadow copy creation: Attempt 1.

Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:0x8004231f.

Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:8004231f
Aborting Backup.

Volume C:\ has just 5% free of space, i am making the backup with an
external USB HD. How could make a succesfully system state backup?

Thanks in advance!
Kindest regards
PFernandez

That error seems to relate to your lack of free space. Is there any data
you can move off your C:\ partition? If not, you may have to consider
deleting service pack or patch uninstall files, moving your page file, etc.

Hello,

Thanks for your post and Dave's input.

As Dave pointed, the 0x8004231f error is caused by low disk space for volume shadow copy service to perform the System State backup. In addition to moving data folders
to other disks/partitions, you may also consider:

Suggestions:
==========
Right click on the System drive(I assume it is C drive) and select properties, on the Shadow Copies tab:
=-> Delete one oldest snapshot
=-> Check if shadow copy still fails with same error
=-> Delete once more snapshot and try again.
=-> If the issue persists, try to changed the 'settings' of C: drive from "No limit" to "Use limit" value. You can click the Details button and use the Maximum size as the "Use
limit" value.

Hope this helps. Also, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Best regards,
