I have had problems with this computer in the past but just recently seemed
to have everything working. However, in the past couple of days it was
getting very sluggish in responding. This evening when I sat down it was
already running and would not respond to anything I did. I did a cold
shut-down (held the power button in). When I restarted, I get this error
that the Services.exe cannot run. Below that it says "umpnpmgr.dll not
found..." I can click the "OK" button and continue but it takes a good
half-hour before I get to the Windows screen and then I have to wait 2 or 3
minutes fro each mouse click to register. Ridiculous.
I did some digging in this area and on the internet (on another computer)
and apparently this is a Plug and Play file that must have gotten corrupt.
Attempts: I've given up on trying anything from Windows, it's way too slow.
I did manage to get to System Restore in the Program menus but it didn't work
either. Will the F10 (System Restore) work on boot-up? Will I lose my apps?
Any other ideas?
Thanks much,
Jeff
