Vista is constantly doing mini-dumps, very unstable. Once re-started, I click
on pop up for a solution to the mini-dump problem encountered. Recently it
has begun to tell me the cause was Norton/Symantec anti-virus, which I do NOT
have as my virus protection (I have Vista compatible CA). The solution
instructs me to update my Norton anti-virus. Norton was not an add-on freebie
with my Gateway computer, either. But to my surprise in the regedit, there is
a folder for Notron/Symnatec. Can I delete it from my registry or is it tied
to any other Windows Vista program (like Defender?).

Which one? There are 9 listed. And since I never installed it in the first
place, I have no idea which one to choose. Can you tell me how to find that
out? Will info in my registry show it? There is no listing for either Norton
or Symantec in my Programs and Features on the control panel.. It only
appears when I do a search of the registry.

Do you have any other Symantec applications, eg fax, Ghost etc
If you check in Explorer are there any entries for
Symantec/Norton/Liveupdate?

I never installed anything associated with Symantec or Norton that I know of.
Ghost, fax-I don't recognize either. I suspect that software came loaded on
this Gateway computer although there is no Norton ro Symantec anything listed
under Programs and Features. I nev er would have found Norton/Symantec in the
regestry if the Solution Report from microsoft hadn't told me the physical
memory mini-dump was from Norton?symantec. That led me to search registry and
sure enough there was one entry. How do I go about checking "Explorer for any
entries for Symantec/Norton/LiveUpdate? I only know how to find it in my
registry through regedit---find

Sometimes, Norton comes preloaded and bundled with a new computer. When I
was bringing one up for a client, I noticed Norton started installing,
without warning. I stopped it, removed as much as I could, and continued
bringing the rest of the applications. It wasn't until later, that this
computer was having problems. There were no signs of Norton that I could
find. I down loaded their removal tool and sure enough, it found some more
vestiges. System has been running fine now for over a year. I have never
had a good experience with a Symantec products since the DOS days.

You might check in the Add/Remove dialogue for either
Symantec
Norton or
LiveUpdate
Very often OEM's have prinstalled versions of either Norton or McAfee

Open your C: drive, and then open Program Files.
Look for a Norton or Symantec folder.

If you find them, you can't delete the folder in 1 hit; you have to delete
file by file, as a couple won't delete.
But, you remove enough to get rid of error messages.
